Welcome!
My name is Sophie Roads, I'm a 20 year old plant-based chef & baker based on Martha's Vineyard with a deep passion for our food systems, regenerative farming, Ayurveda, yoga, and permaculture. Cooking for people and being in the kitchen is one of my greatest joys. I believe that food is the most profound root of culture and meant to be made with love. It connects people across the world and is something we all have in common one way or another.
Qualifications
Working multiple jobs in cafes, food trucks, and restaurants over the past 6 or so years, I've gained so much experience, knowledge and enthusiasm for the art of food (although I don't believe we every stop learning and growing! Beginners mind always). Currently, and for the past 4 years, I've worked for the YouEnjoyMyVegan Food Truck doing farmers Markets, First Fridays, and other events.
I attend Naropa University in Boulder Colorado in the Environmental Studies program with a focus on regenerative food systems, permaculture, and social & political justice. I work as baker, barista, and prep/expo cook at a local, women-owned Greek cafe back in Colorado where I've learned many techniques and skills including the delicate task of maintaining and calibrating espresso machines, making beautiful baklava, turkish bagels, gluten free quiches, spanakopita, and my favorite, really pretty latte art. I've worked on the field crew at Whippoorwill Farm and catered for weddings and parties every summer since I was about 12 years old through Patrie Grace and Jamie Hamlin. This past year I began another very small personal chef business with a few amazing women as well!
I've always been drawn to more plant forward and health conscious cooking and living. I am a certified health coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, a certified yoga teacher through the Kripalu Center, and an Ayurvedic health advisor in training. I love creating and experimenting with new recipes, making every dish a work of art, and most of all; having fun doing it!
